Tourist dead after massive fire breaks out at Dominican Republic resort: Officials

At least one person died after a massive fire broke out at a resort in the Dominican Republic on Friday, authorities said.
Fifteen fire departments are battling the blaze at the Viva Dominicus Beach resort in La Altagracia province, the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ABC News.

The ministry said that a 46-year-old female tourist from Italy died in the fire. The total number of injured remains unclear.

Dramatic images and videos show thick smoke rising over the facility, which has approximately 700 rooms.

Located between Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, the resort is operated in partnership with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. ABC News has reached out to Wyndham for comment.
