Asian Games: No Suryakumar Yadav or Shubman Gill in BCCI’s longlist; Vaibhav Sooryavanshi among 30 probables
It was decided early on that the BCCI would have to field two separate T20 teams as India’s home white-ball series against the West Indies partially overlapped with the four-year extravaganza.

The West Indies series consists of eight white-ball games, three ODIs and five T20Is, between 27 September and 17 October. As Gill was expected to lead the team in ODIs, he was not selected for the Asian Games.
While some players are common in both ODIs and T20Is, men’s cricket at the Asian Games will take place between September 24 and October 3, forcing the selectors to create a larger pool to select two teams.
It appears that Suryakumar no longer figures in the wider scheme of things when it comes to the 2028 Olympic Games and the next T20 World Cup, and it is a no-brainer that his name is not on the Asian Games longlist.

Jasprit Bumrah’s name is on the list of bowlers, but considering the 2027 World Cup, ODIs might be his priority at this point.
Harshit Rana is expected to be fit by then and has been kept in the longlist along with Prasidh Krishna and Arshdeep Singh.
Among the spinners, front-order slow bowlers Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Harsh Dubey have made the list, but only two of the four are expected to be selected. The other two will play the Windies series.
Surprisingly, the only prominent non-performer to make it to the list was skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who won the gold medal from the Hangzhou edition.
