Trump upbraids Netanyahu over Lebanon, asking, ‘What the f— are you doing?’

President Trump reportedly appointed him to the post on Monday during a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding his military campaign in Lebanon.

At one point, Trump reportedly asked Netanyahu, “What are you doing?” he reportedly shouted.

Earlier on Monday, Netanyahu ordered The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will strike Hezbollah targets in the Dahiyeh district of Beirut. Israel and Hezbollah have continued clashes since October 2023, despite the ceasefire that started in November 2024.
Officials in Iran, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, said that Israel’s attack on Lebanon amounted to a violation of the ceasefire agreed upon by Washington and Tehran on April 7. Trump said Monday that talks are continuing between his administration and the Islamic Republic toward a lasting peace.
“The ceasefire between Iran and the United States is an undisputed ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon,” Araghchi said. wrote on social platform X on Monday. “Violation on one front means violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The United States and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation.”
After the phone call with Netanyahu, which he described as “productive”, Trump said that no Israeli soldiers would go to Beirut.
“Today I had a conversation with Bibi Netanyahu asking him not to participate in a major raid on Beirut, Lebanon,” the president said. He wrote on the Truth Social platform. “He turned his troops back. Thank you, Bibi!”
Trump added: “I also met with representatives of Hezbollah Leaders and they agreed to stop shooting at Israel and its soldiers. Likewise, Israel agreed to stop shooting at them. Let’s see how long this lasts – I hope it lasts forever!”
Later Monday, Netanyahu wrote to x “If Hezbollah does not stop attacking our cities and citizens, Israel will attack terrorist targets in Beirut,” he told Trump.
Netanyahu added that the Israeli Armed Forces “will continue to operate as planned” in southern Lebanon. The capital, Beirut, is located on the east coast of Lebanon, in line with the center of the country.
