Madeleine McCann suspect facing jail time for calling prison guard ‘son of a b****’ | World | News

Brueckner was never charged with any crime in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. He denies any involvement.

At the time, he was serving a sentence for an unrelated rape of a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz. During that conviction, he reportedly called a guard a “son of b****” in October 2023, according to German newspaper Bild. The convicted pedophile and rapist was sentenced to six weeks in prison by the Oldenburg Regional Court in December 2024.

However, the defense appealed the decision, leaving the sentence pending in legal proceedings. This sentence was scheduled to take effect on Monday, June 1, when it was reported that the court was preparing to withdraw the appeal.

The case was dismissed after Brueckner’s lawyer called in sick, causing a delay until the fall and meaning Brueckner would be released in the meantime, according to T.o Sun.

A source close to the case told the newspaper: “Maddie prosecutors know that as long as she is free, there is a possibility she will flee the country and disappear, bringing with her the hope of taking the case to trial.”

Madeleine disappeared from a holiday home in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3, 2007, when she was three years old, prompting a massive police search.

In 2021, Germany’s chief prosecutor of the Brückner investigation, Hans Christian Wolters, said he was 100% sure that Brückner killed Madeleine.

The yellow-and-white VW T3 Westfalia caravan was identified as being near the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz when the little girl went missing.

He remains the prime suspect in investigations into what happened to him in both Germany and the UK.

McCann, 49, was never charged with any crime in connection with his case. He has previously denied any involvement.
