Locals Tonsure TMC Leader, Garland Him With Shoes Over Extortion Charge

Kolkata: A man was tonsured, adorned with shoes and paraded around the village by angry locals in West Bengal’s Howrah district, who alleged that the Trinamool Congress leader was extorting money from beneficiaries of welfare schemes. Residents of Amardaha village said Sannashi Manna was extorting money from people to avail benefits under various welfare schemes. A large number of Aadhaar cards and job cards belonging to MGNREGA scheme were allegedly seized from his house.

In videos circulating on social media, villagers allegedly adorned Manna with shoes and shaved her head.

The police rescued Manna and brought the situation under control.

A police officer said Manna was rescued from the angry crowd. He said there would be an investigation into the allegations made by locals, although no formal complaint had been made against him.

PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Since the BJP came to power in West Bengal, there have been widespread agitations and public anger against local Trinamool Congress leaders.
