Father charged with murder after attack at son’s university | World | News

The parent of a Kentucky State University student has been charged with murder for an on-campus attack in which he allegedly opened fire on one of the university’s dormitories, killing one teenager and critically wounding a second. Police have not yet released any motive to explain why Jacob Lee Bard allegedly opened fire on his son’s classmates.
Frankfurt Police confirmed that the 48-year-old father has been formally charged in connection with the shooting and will be charged with murder and first-degree assault.
The father hails from Evansville, Indiana — about 150 miles from his college campus in Frankfort, Kentucky — where police said he opened fire near his dormitory. Investigators now say the attack was an isolated incident and that they have not publicly shared details of the circumstances or possible motive for why Bard decided to open fire at his son’s university.
Indianapolis teenager De’Jon Fox was killed in Tuesday’s attack. A second student was in critical condition, while police declined to identify the surviving victim.
At a police press conference, officers were asked why Bard was on campus that day. Prior to the shooting, videos emerged of the fight allegedly involving Bard’s sons; reporters asked if he was on campus to talk to university administrators about his son’s safety.
Frankfurt Deputy Police Chief Scott Tracy declined to comment on what may have led to Bard’s alleged fatal attack. according to access pointHe told a police briefing on Wednesday: “It’s really too early to give any details that lead to an investigation at the moment. A lot of it would be speculation.”
The attack occurred around 3:35 p.m. local time in Young Hall, a dormitory on the south side of campus, according to Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Scott Tracy. The state governor said a suspect was in custody and there was no ongoing threat.
Police detained Bard at the scene immediately after the alleged attack ended.
