Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Saturday, February 21, 2026, released updated versions of the Constitution of India in Tamil and Gujarati along with the 8th Edition of the Law Dictionary (English-Hindi) at Uprashtrapati Bhavan (Vice President’s Residence) in New Delhi on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal was also present. In its post on X, the Vice Presidency said that the initiative aims to deliver the Constitution to the public in their own language and strengthen democratic participation and awareness.
The post quoted Mr Radhakrishnan as describing Tamil as “one of the world’s oldest classical languages with a rich literary heritage” and Gujarati as a language with “profound cultural and philosophical depth”.

Stating that accessing the Constitution in regional languages increases citizens’ participation in democratic processes, Radhakrishnan emphasized that language should not prevent the understanding of the country’s basic legal document.
The Vice President also thanked the Ministry of Law and Justice for the extensive work undertaken in bringing out the updated translations and the revised law dictionary. He noted that this effort will help make constitutional and legal terminology more understandable to a broader audience.
In the statement, which coincided with International Mother Language Day, the importance of linguistic diversity and participation in public life was emphasized.
