Cong Wants DMK To Be In INDIA Coalition?

Chennai: When Congress leader Rahul Gandhi told DMK chief MK Stalin, ‘We will continue to be guided by our common determination to defend the idea of India, our Constitution and federalism’, the question arises whether the Congress really wants the DMK to continue in the INDIA coalition, from which the State party has distanced itself following the development following the Assembly elections.
The Congress party in the state broke its decade-long relationship with the DMK and formed an alliance with the TVK, which formed the government, and even secured two ministerial seats for its MLAs who won seats in alliance with the DMK. Rahul Gandhi did not vote for DMK candidates even during the elections.
Therefore, when the INDI Alliance called a meeting of its constituent parties in New Delhi on June 8, the DMK did not join the cause and later accused the Congress of backstabbing the ally in the Assembly elections.
In such an environment, Rahul Gandhi issued a message on Friday on X saying that the two parties will ‘fight for the soul of our democracy and we will fight this together until we win’. The message was part of a response to birthday greetings sent by Stalin to Rahul Gandhi on Friday.
Rahul Gandhi’s response to Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s greetings was: ‘We remain united in our commitment to the Constitution and strengthening our democracy and together we continue to work for the welfare, dignity and aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu.’
Read together, the messages convey Congress’ plans to work with DMK to take on the BJP government at the Center and work with TVK in Tamil Nadu.
Rahul Gandhi had promised to work together in all his replies to leaders of various State parties who greeted him. He has only gratitude to Kanimozhi for the thoughtful wishes.
