Congress-backed candidates secure majority in BDCC Bank polls

Congress-backed candidates took control of the Bengaluru District Central Cooperative (BDCC) Bank by winning 15 of the 18 seats in the elections held on Sunday. The victory is seen as a significant increase in the ruling party’s influence on the cooperative sector in the region.
Announcing the results at a press conference held at BDCC Bank office in Chamarajpet on Sunday, DK Suresh, president of Bangalore Urban, Rural and Ramanagara District Milk Producers Associations Union Limited (BAMUL), said the success was achieved under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
According to Mr. Suresh, Congress-backed candidates won seats across Ramanagara (2), Channapatna (1), Kanakapura (2) and Magadi (2) in Bengaluru Rural district. In Bengaluru Urban region, the party secured victory in Hoskote (2), Devanahalli (1), Doddaballapur (1), Anekal (1) and North Bengaluru (1). He said another seat was won with the support of HM Revanna.
Meanwhile, the BJP won two seats in Nelamangala and Solur with the support of Congress members.
Mr. Suresh credited the victory to the coordinated efforts of several MLAs, including senior Ministers Ramalinga Reddy, KH Muniyappa, Krishna Byre Gowda and B. Shivanna, Sharath Bachegowda, Iqbal Hussain, Balakrishna, CP Yogeshwar and N. Srinivas, as well as local leaders RK Ramesh and Venkataramappa. He also thanked the cooperative members and even the defeated candidates for their support.
“BDCC Bank has a long history and occupies a prominent position in the State capital. The bank has witnessed many ups and downs but is currently working with improved management. It covers 36 Assembly constituencies in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru City districts,” he said.
Promising to strengthen the functioning of the cooperative bank, Mr. Suresh said the new board will work to provide better services and facilities to farmers and citizens under its jurisdiction.
