Durg Nuns arrest: Tribal ‘victims’ approach women’s commision, seek action against Bajrang Dal members

Three young tribal women from Narayanpur – two nuns from Kerala and two nuns and the residents of Narayanpur were arrested by Chhattisgarh last month, alleged victims of the trafficking case of the human trafficking case, approached the State Women’s Commission because they were mentally and physically harassed against Bajrang branch members.

A lawyer representing women said that the first hearing was held in Raipur on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

On July 25, Sister Preethi Merry from Kerala and Sukaman Mandavi from Vandana Francis and Narayanpur were arrested by the government railway police (GRP) at the Durg Station after a complaint filed by Bajrang Dal member.

The complaint claimed that three young tribal women were involved in forcibly transforming Narayanpur and making them trafficking. The case led to the explosion of great protests of politicians from Kerala.

Phool Singh Kachlam, who represented three tribal women, said Hindu was wrong by members of Bajrang branch members at the train station and approached the commission after the efforts to register the police complaint. “Women between the ages of 19-24 said that they were willing to accompany the nuns and follow Christianity. They were subjected to inconvenient interpretations at the train station and was exposed to caste nausea as well as inappropriate touched.”

In the same documentary applications, women claimed that a strong legal action was taken against Joti Sharma, Ratan Yadav and Ravi Nigam (complaining in the case against the nuns).

Mr. Kachlam added that the commission made notifications to both relevant activists and girls’ families.

“Bajrang branch members were called between Sharma, Yadav and Nigam. Sharma emerged briefly in the morning, leaving the trials and left before the official hearing.
