Consumption sustaining growth; predictable support essential for GDP expansion: Finance Minister

Domestic consumption supports the growth momentum in the economy and predictable policy support is essential to ensure that the pace of GDP expansion continues, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday, April 24, 2026.

Speaking at an event organized by SBI in Pune, Ms. Sitharaman also said that a committee of bankers is exploring whether private distribution mergers for sale of third-party products should be allowed by banks or whether an open architecture approach should be adopted.
