Court rejects bail pleas of 6 accused, orders judicial custody

The defendants were sent to judicial custody until October 27, and their next hearing will be held on the same date. The court ordered a Test Identification Walk (TI) for the defendant on October 24. Read on for more details.

The Durgapur Court on Wednesday rejected bail pleas of six accused in the alleged rape of an MBBS student. The defendants were referred to the courthouse after their police detention period, which varied between 7 and 10 days. The defendants were sent to judicial custody until October 27 and their next hearing will be held on the same date. The court ordered a Test Identification Parade (TI) for the accused on October 24. The accused in connection with the alleged rape of an MBBS student in Durgapur was produced in court on Wednesday.

Victim’s lawyer Amit Kumar said, “All the accused were produced before the Durgapur court. The government prosecutor kept his points and we also kept our points. The court fixed October 24 (TI) for identification of the accused and remanded them to judicial custody till October 27. The public prosecutor submitted the request for expert opinion on the submission of WhatsApp chats to the court.” The three defendants, who were previously brought to court on October 12, were detained by the police for 10 days. The two suspects, who were brought to court on October 13, were sentenced to 9 days of police detention. The sixth defendant was brought to the courthouse on October 15 and was detained in police custody for 7 days.

National Commission for Women, NCW member Archana Majumdar criticized the West Bengal police for delaying the investigation into the rape case of an MBBS student in Durgapur. NCW Member Archana Majumdar spoke to ANI about the Durgapur alleged rape case and shared her experience of meeting the victim at the hospital. Majumdar said he met the victim the day after the incident and found him weak but received treatment. Majumdar stated that the victim’s bleeding had stopped, but he was psychologically and emotionally distressed. He expressed concern about the police investigation, noting that a sixth suspect was arrested despite only five people being named in the victim’s statement. Majumdar emphasized the need to protect victims, citing allegations that the suspects had links to the ruling party and claiming that authorities had delayed the release of the medical report in the case.

According to the victim’s father, the medical student was kidnapped by one of his classmates on the pretext of going to buy food. However, two or three more men came and raped her. His classmate abandoned him and ran away. On October 15, Durgapur Police arrested the victim’s friend, making the sixth arrest in the case. Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate stated that the victim’s friend was arrested and his role in the incident is being investigated.

Asansol-Durgapur Commissioner of Police (CP) Sunil Kumar Choudhary earlier said that the police arrested six persons whose presence was detected at the spot in connection with the Durgapur rape case. Choudhary also said that a 24-hour security guard was posted at the victim’s house. Meanwhile, a medical report was delivered to the victim and he was discharged from the hospital on October 17, 2025. “We would like to inform you about our student’s latest health condition. Our multi-specialty medical board has meticulously cared for his physical and mental health. After a comprehensive examination by our team of specialist doctors, our student was treated and deemed fit for discharge. This evaluation was duly discussed with his parents and he was safely discharged from the hospital today.” read the hoispital letter.
