While the US administration is making various moves regarding the country’s immigration policy, President Donald Trump said that he plans to pause asylum seekers “for a long time.”

“They are people who should not be in our country, including Somalis and many others,” Trump told reporters, referring to the Afghan national accused of shooting near the White House.

He was speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One. When asked how long the asylum pause would last, Trump said it would be a long time because “most of them are not well.”

“For a long time. There is no term limit. We don’t want these people. We have enough problems. Do you know why? Because most of them are useless and should not be in our country,” he added.

Trump, who launched a harsh attack on immigrants from countries such as Somalia, said that they had no government or police and were “going around killing each other.”

“These people are from different countries that are not friendly to us and are out of control themselves. Countries like Somalia that have almost no government, military or police. All they do is go around killing each other. Then they come to our country and tell us how to run our country. We don’t want them,” Trump said.

Although Trump did not provide details on the number of countries targeted, he said the number was likely more than 19.

“These are not good countries. Countries that commit a lot of crime. Countries that don’t make records in terms of success. Frankly, in our country, we don’t need their people telling us what to do.”

Speaking about the attack on two National Guard members, Trump said, “Andrew is fighting for his life.”

He added that he plans to honor both at the White House.

Trump on Sunday (local time) criticized the previous Joe Biden administration, accusing its leaders of “destroying the country” by accepting “uncontrolled and unmonitored” immigrants.

The president also criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris, who is responsible for overseeing the nation’s border security policies and immigration enforcement efforts, for allowing “anyone to come into the United States.”

“Crooked Joe Biden, Mayorkas, and the so-called ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris have truly destroyed our Country by allowing everyone to come in completely unchecked and unmonitored,” Trump said on Truth Social.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also accused the previous Biden administration of committing “an act of national self-sabotage” by allowing immigrants like Lakanwal to enter the country. The ministry also stated that immigration requests for Afghan citizens have been suspended indefinitely.
