Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong apologizes for vulgar response to fan heckler

Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong apologized for using vulgar language during a heated argument with a fan during Sunday’s loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Crow-Armstrong, the Cubs’ 24-year-old star, regretted his “choice of words” and said he learned from the experience.

PCA was heard saying “fuck me d— b—-” during his interaction with the away fans.

“I mostly regret my choice of words and who it affected my life,” Crow-Armstrong said Monday afternoon. per ESPN. “I don’t think any woman in my life, directly or indirectly, would think I would say those kinds of words on a regular basis. I’m disappointed in the choice of words and the fact that a bunch of young kids also went to social media and saw it.”

In the fifth inning of the “Crosstown Classic,” Crow-Armstrong crashed into the wall while trying to catch a fly ball. He sat on the ground for a while while fans lined up along the fence under the stands and near the visitors’ bullpen.

While several people appeared to be talking to Crow-Armstrong, a woman heckled him, prompting his pointed response. The interaction was recorded on camera and Crow-Armstrong could be heard very clearly.

“I saw the cameras in my face, it’s not like I didn’t see them,” he admitted. “I am acutely aware that it has exploded.”

Crow-Armstrong added that he was “intense on the court” but admitted, “I think I let that get away from me a little bit.”

Cubs manager Craig Counsell also hopes his star outfielder learns from the situation.

“Pete made a mistake in his choice of words,” Counsell said. “He’s aware of that. … That’s the reality of this business. Fan interactions happen. Even if they don’t, you want to try to keep them positive.”

ESPN added that MLB was not involved in the incident despite it going viral.

Crow-Armstrong is in his third year with the Cubs, but he’s already viewed as a cornerstone of the storied franchise. He also represented the United States in the World Baseball Classic before the season.

As a key representative of the franchise and everyone in the clubhouse, Crow-Armstrong hopes he can move forward by “killing someone with kindness rather than conforming to the level of intent.”
