Dabbawalas: The men who fed Mumbai

The early dabbawalas carried lunch boxes on bicycles and marked them with colored thread so they could be classified correctly and sent back. Over time these signs were replaced by a unique alphanumeric code system and deliveries began to rely on bicycles, motorcycles and Mumbai’s suburban train network.
