Ketan Agrawal Murder Case Rocks Assembly; SIT Probe Ordered

Mumbai: Maharashtra Assembly speaker Raju Khare on Thursday directed the state government to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder of Pune real estate agent Ketan Agrawal.

According to police, 24-year-old Ketan Agrawal died on June 18 after he allegedly fell from the Lohagad Fort near Pune. His fiancée, 20-year-old Siya Goyal, initially told his family that he had slipped while walking, and the incident was treated as an accident. However, Agrawal’s family expressed doubts about the circumstances of his death.

During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the castle’s ticket office and noticed a hooded man following the couple. Investigators found his clothing unusual as the temperature that day was around 33 degrees Celsius. The man was later identified as Chetan Chaudhary. Police said CCTV footage and other evidence showed that Goyal and Chaudhary conspired to kill Agrawal because he did not want to marry her. They allegedly pushed him into a passage in the Lohagad Fort.

The issue was raised in the Assembly by NCP MLA Sunil Shelke and demanded that Goyal’s family should also be named as accused in the case. She alleged that her family hid her relationship with another man from Agrawal’s family.

Shelke also called for the case to be heard in fast-track court. Following the debate, Khare instructed the government to set up an SIT to investigate the incident.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav questioned whether the president’s order would be binding on the government. He cited previous examples where instructions given by the deputy chairman of the Legislative Council were not implemented and said that the decisions of the Assembly were also not always followed.

However, BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar said the rules governing the Legislative Council and the Assembly are different.
