The incident occurred during the second set of the first round match between Wobker and his opponent on Saturday.

Romanian Maria Valentina Pop was ahead 6-0 in the first set, and when things were deadlocked at 5-5 in the second set, Wobker hit a backhand shot out of the court.

Clearly showing his disappointment at the mistake, Wobker threw his racket and although he may not have meant to do so, it flew into the stands. It’s unclear if it hit any spectators, but there was a group in the lower levels where the racket fell.

Wobker immediately went there and apologized for his big mistake, but the officials stopped the match and discussed the penalty.

In the end, Wobker was given an infraction penalty for her behavior on the grass and Pop was rewarded with an automatic bid to the next round of the women’s junior singles tournament. She would later lose to Daniella Britton in her second round match.

Wobker addressed the incident on her Instagram Stories on Saturday night, writing: “B— happens, you learn from it!” Sun.

International Tennis Federation rules contain clear instructions on what to do when a racket is thrown in Wobker’s style, stating that a player “shall not strike, kick or throw the racket violently or in anger” during the tournament.

Authorities have stepped in and, as Wobker said, will learn from the situation.

It wasn’t his best effort on the court before his moment of disappointment, committing 11 double faults and 44 unforced errors on serve.

But at just 15 years old, Wobker is ranked 24th in the International Tennis Federation’s junior world rankings, meaning he has plenty of career left to vent his frustrations on the court.
