Ex-Tory minister says Afghan resettlement scheme was ‘most hapless display of ineptitude’ he saw in government – live | Politics

Good morning. Normally, when the Ministers make announcements in the House of Commons, we already know some of the details because they are well monitored in advance. Yesterday, it was a rare example of a ministry expression used to reveal something new and really new (at least 30 minutes ago, to everyone who has not seen stories when the restrictions were reported). And this was a story about the blurred operation of the deep state. Here is a night story, Dan Sabbagh And Emine Sinmaz.
Today, attention focuses on who will be accused. And two former Tor Minister The Daily Telegraph have a say in rival articles.
I’m wallaceWho was the defense secretary when the leak took place? His article defending to go to court to stop the accidental release of the reported names. He said:
At that time, I do not apologize to apply to the court for a precautionary measure decision. Some were not a covering because they tried to claim childish.
If this leak was reported at that time, I got the opinion that the presence of the list would endanger what we need to help.
Some may not agree, but imagine whether the Taliban has been warned about the presence of this list. I was afraid to think about what would happen.
Wallace took part in the program this morning this morning and insisted that the precautionary measure would not be accused of being a superinjunction. He said:
In August 2023, when I applied when I became Minister of Foreign Affairs, we did not apply to Superinjunction. We applied for a four -month precautionary measure and a normal measure decision.
Wallace said that it was the court that turned it into a superinjunction (that is not only the leak cannot be reported, but the presence of a precautionary measure of gaging, not reported). Wallace claimed that he didn’t know why.
In his article, Wallace greatly defends the decisions taken by the previous government, but Johnny MercerIn the same government, gas ministers (but not in mode – worked in the cabinet office), criticizes the way the entire Afghan re -settlement program is discussed. Inside Telegraph article He said:
Certainly, even though he was going to rush to blame the sending individual (I know who he is), it would be completely unfair and wrong to do so. To be honest, I can say that this Foulary process is the most unlucky -incompetent portion by consecutive ministers and authorities, where this poor individual is the end of this line.
Mode, at every opportunity, Afghan Special Forces units came to England for reasons I could not comprehend.
They also lied to them to do this. The UK’s Special Forces Director personally told me that he was uncomfortable with my suggestion that his organization has blocked the trio and that he was angry.
Some mode ministers had a lack of professional curiosity about the trio [members of the Afghan special forces] He was rejected when there were many issues experts who said they should be clearly appropriate.
They even tried for a long time to say that the Afghan special forces were not suitable.
Mercer said England allows the wrong people to enter.
And the clear result of this magnificent cluster is that we allow thousands of people to this country with very little or continuous connections, and we still set up bloody plans for some Afghan special forces, stuck in Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iran.
I feel angry, sad and painful about everything and I do my best to avoid thinking about Afghanistan every day.
Here is the agenda of the day.

10:00: Foreign Minister David Lammy gives evidence to the Commons International Development Committee.

If you want to contact me, please send a message under the line when the comments are open (normally between 10 and 15:00 in the morning) or send me a message on social media. I can’t read all the BTL messages, but if you put it in a message for me, it is more likely to see it because I am looking for posts containing this word.
If you want to mark something urgently, it is best to use social media. You can reach me at Bluesky at @Andrewsparrowgdn.bsky.social. Guardian gave up sending from the official accounts in X, but the individual guardian journalists are there, I still have an account and if you send me a message at @AndrewSarrow, I will see it and I will answer if necessary.
I find it very useful when readers draw attention to mistakes, even small spelling errors. No error is too small to fix. And I find your questions very interesting. I can’t promise that you’ll answer all of them, but I will try to answer as much as possible on BTL or sometimes on the blog.
