Delhi weather today: Brace for 50°C feel-like temperature as monsoon misses date with national capital

Meteorology said that partly cloudy weather is expected to continue throughout the day, and the possibility of showers is expected in the afternoon or evening. Surface winds of 20-30 km per hour with occasional gusts of up to 40 km per hour are also likely.
Delhi Records Scorching Feeling Temperature
Although the maximum temperature settled at 41.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday, Delhi felt significantly hotter due to high humidity levels. According to the IMD, the heat index or “felt” temperature reached 48.4 degrees Celsius.
Another weather assessment reported that the felt temperature reached 51.3 degrees Celsius around 14:30 on Saturday, the highest heat index recorded this season. Previous peaks of 48.2 degrees Celsius were recorded on May 28 and June 10.
Meteorologists attributed the extreme discomfort to high humidity levels. At 14.30 on Saturday, the relative humidity was at 45 percent.
Temperatures Remain Above Normal
Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday, which was 4.1 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature reached 30.8 degrees Celsius, nearly three degrees above the seasonal average.
Other weather stations also reported warm conditions. While the minimum temperature in Palam was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road recorded 29.8 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius and 29.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Ridge and Ayanagar respectively. IMD expects the minimum temperature to remain between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Rain and Storm Warning for Next Week
While only trace amounts of rain were recorded in parts of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday, the weather department has predicted a change in conditions next week.
IMD published a statement Yellow alert for Tuesday and WednesdayRain, thunderstorms and high winds forecast. Very light to light precipitation is expected in the coming days, and weather activity is expected to intensify by mid-week.
According to forecasts, the maximum temperature may gradually drop from 39-41 degrees Celsius on Sunday to 35-37 degrees Celsius by Wednesday.
Monsoon Hasn’t Come to Delhi Yet
Delhi missed its normal southwest monsoon start date of June 27. The IMD is yet to announce the expected arrival date of the monsoon in the national capital.
However, the ministry said conditions have become favorable for the southwest monsoon to move towards other parts of north and central India in the next few days.
Delhi Air Quality Remains Moderate
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality continued to remain in the ‘moderate’ category on Saturday. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 130.
