A Deputy U.S. Marshal was shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant in Alexandria, Louisiana, on Monday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
The Rapides County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened around 3 p.m. in the area of Rutland Road, where authorities were trying to apprehend a wanted fugitive.
“Sheriff’s Detectives, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force, were conducting a law enforcement operation to apprehend a wanted fugitive in the area of Rutland Road, where the Officer Shooting Incident occurred,” the sheriff’s office said. he said.

While the FBI is conducting the investigation into the murder of the deputy, the sheriff’s office is also investigating the attack. Louisiana State Police are also assisting.
“The FBI responded to an incident this afternoon in Alexandria with the Alexandria Police Department, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police,” the FBI New Orleans Field Office said in a statement. he said. “The FBI is currently conducting the investigation into the assault on a federal officer.
