DHS issues $84 billion in fines to illegal immigrants under Trump

FIRST ON FOX: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the Trump administration collected more than $1 billion in payments while issuing more than 100,000 fines totaling nearly $84 billion to illegal immigrants, Fox News Digital has learned.
A DHS official told Fox News Digital that since President Donald Trump returned to the White House nearly 18 months ago, DHS has issued 103,000 fines totaling about $84 billion.
As of July, the agency had collected approximately $1.2 billion in penalty payments.

The Department of Homeland Security says more than $1 billion in fines has been collected from illegal immigrants since President Donald Trump returned to office.
Shortly after Trump returned to office, the administration announced that it would begin imposing fines of $998 per day on illegal immigrants subject to final deportation orders if they do not voluntarily leave the United States or otherwise comply with deportation orders. Illegal immigrants must pay the fine before being deported, and DHS has said it can seize the assets of those who fail to pay.
The Trump administration has announced a series of measures designed to encourage illegal immigrants to leave the country, including DHS’s announcement that those who refuse to self-deport could face “significant financial penalties.”
DHS has argued that the program is significantly less costly than traditional deportations and is designed to encourage illegal immigrants to leave the United States voluntarily.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has published a brochure outlining the “benefits” and “consequences” for illegal immigrants who self-deport using the CBP Home app.
“Self-deportation is safe,” the brochure stated. “Depart on your own terms by choosing your departure flight.”
According to DHS, non-criminal illegal immigrants who voluntarily leave the United States can keep the money they earned while in the country and maintain their right to apply for legal immigration in the future. Some may also qualify for subsidized flights if they can’t afford to travel home.

Meanwhile, the pamphlet warns that those who do not self-deport will be “detained by DHS without the opportunity to get their affairs in order beforehand.”
In May, Fox News Digital reported that more than 3 million illegal immigrants left the United States in Trump’s first year back in office, according to figures provided by DHS. About 2.2 million of these immigrants were self-deported, the department said.
DHS also said the administration had deported nearly 900,000 illegal immigrants and arrested more than 900,000 as of May 17.

The department said the figures show Trump’s crackdown on immigrants is reshaping immigration patterns after a record number of illegal crossings during former President Joe Biden’s administration.
