DHS says undocumented immigrant accused of 2 Texas murders six years apart

First time on Fox: Two women allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant six years apart in Texas should still be alive, the Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday.
Luis Fernando Benítez-González, 26, a Mexican national, has been linked to the murders of 34-year-old Alyssa Ann Rivera in Austin and 28-year-old Alba Jenisse Aviles in Bastrop County, authorities said. He was arrested in Dallas on April 27 by the U.S. Marshals Service and other law enforcement.
“This illegal alien from Mexico is accused of murdering two women in Texas,” said Acting DHS Deputy Secretary Lauren Bis. “He was also arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of dangerous drugs.

“Alba Jenisse Aviles and Alyssa Ann Rivera should still be alive today,” he added.
Benítez-González is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, according to jail records in Travis County, where he is currently being held. He also has a prior drug possession conviction, according to DHS.
Authorities said the man was linked to the murders through DNA evidence.
Aviles was killed on April 14, 2018; His body was discovered by a passing motorist. She was last seen alive with an unidentified Spanish man at Club Caribe in Austin. Bastrop County detectives found evidence that Aviles had been dragged, strangled, and assaulted; He was noted to have mud on his clothes and feet, bruises on his neck, chin and lip, and blood on his face and outside his car.

Detectives also found one of her earrings 10 feet away from the vehicle. Fox 7Austin reported.
Benítez-González told detectives he was defending himself and claimed Aviles attacked him during an argument about drugs. He allegedly admitted grabbing her from behind by the neck and choking her for about seven minutes.
Rivera’s body was found in an abandoned house by Austin police on June 21, 2024. He was found with an extension cord wrapped around his neck. Police also found a bloody rock, bloody handprints and evidence that Rivera had been forcibly dragged into the home and assaulted.

A medical examiner determined that Rivera suffered blows to his head and nose. Security cameras showed her walking with a man shortly before she was killed. According to reports, Benítez-González claimed Rivera tried to strangle him with a seat belt, then turned the belt on him.
“DNA was found at both scenes,” APD Sgt. “There are multiple DNA sources at both crime scenes, but the same suspect connection in both cases,” Nathan Sexton said in 2024.

However, since the suspect had no previous arrest record, he was not included in the police database. In December 2025, Austin detectives were notified of two incidents in which a man shot two women in separate attacks weeks apart. Authorities later received a tip that the attacker was Benítez-González and that he was trying to sell firearms in an attempt to escape the United States.
