Doctors Absent From Work For Over A Year Without Intimation To Be Dismissed

Vijayawada: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav has warned that doctors will be dismissed if they remain away from work for a year without any notice.
The minister held a review meeting with superintendents of government hospitals and principals of government medical colleges, as well as administrators of NTR health sciences university, here on Friday.
He said that there has been an 8 percent increase in the attendance of doctors and healthcare personnel in the last 19 months. However, based on this, the quality of medical services in the state could not be assessed.
The Minister said that during the YSRC period, the majority of doctors were unofficially absent from the workplace for two to four years. This situation had a major negative impact on the quality of healthcare in AP.
He warned doctors that under the new norms, the government will terminate the services of those who remain unemployed for more than a year. He said that if the appointed or referred doctors do not come to work within the given time, they will be handed over to the medical education directorate.
After receiving a statement, the Minister asked the health authorities to initiate disciplinary action against them.
He advised doctors to provide proper medical treatment to patients so that they can recover and return home with a radiant smile on their face.
Referring to the public opinion regarding healthcare services last December, the Minister said that 60 to 70 percent of patients expressed satisfaction. He called on health directors to address remaining deficiencies in services.
Health Minister Saurabh Gaur said that the ministry will create a system to monitor the functioning of government hospitals and doctors in real time.
Visakhapatnam, Anantapur and Vijayawada hospitals ranked first, second and third respectively in providing outpatient services in government hospitals last December. He said they were treating patients at over 100 percent of the target.
