Met Office names 8 areas facing risk of freezing disruption before Wednesday – full list | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for eight areas across England this week. The ice warning will be in effect from 19:00 tonight (January 12) until 10:00 tomorrow (January 8).

The combination of clear skies and light winds will allow road temperatures to drop below freezing in northern Scotland on Monday evening, continuing overnight and into Tuesday morning, the national forecaster said. This will allow icy cracks to form on untreated surfaces. The public has been advised to be extra careful and be mindful of the risk of some minor travel disruptions.

The Met Office said to keep yourself and your family safe by reducing the risk of accidents, slips and falls by leaving home five minutes earlier than usual to ensure you don’t have to rush.

The national forecaster said if you need to make a journey on foot or by bike, try to use pavements along main roads, which are likely less slippery.

If you’re driving, give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions or bus and train schedules and changing your travel plans if necessary.
