Donald Trump blasts US Olympic skier as a ‘real loser’ | World | News

Donald Trump attacked U.S. Olympian Hunter Hess, calling the Olympic halfpipe skier a “real loser.” Taking to Truth Social, the US President wrote that Hess was “very difficult to ground” after the athlete criticized “everything that’s going on in the US.”
When asked what it meant to him to represent his country at the Winter Olympics in Milan, Hess, 27, admitted it was “a little bit difficult.” Ahead of the inauguration, Hess said he felt like he represented aspects of the United States “if it aligns with my moral values.” “There’s a lot of stuff going on that I’m obviously not the biggest fan of, and I think a lot of people aren’t either,” he said.
“Just because I wear the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the United States,” he added.
Responding directly, Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday morning (Feb. 8): “US Olympic Skier Hunter Hess, a true Loser, says he is not representing his country at the current Winter Olympics.
“If that’s the case, he shouldn’t have tried out for the Team, and it’s too bad he was involved. It’s hard to support someone like that. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
In response, some sided with Hess, while others strongly criticized his words. “You shouldn’t be representing the USA if you hate it here,” said one user on X. “I am so tired of this anti-American rhetoric.”
A second added: “Anti-ICE, liberal athletes are already insufferable at the Olympics. Unless you’re proud to represent the red, white and blue, stay home.”
Another freestyle skier also spoke about the issues in the United States, telling the media: “Athletes are often reluctant to talk about political views and how we feel about things. My heart breaks for what’s going on in the United States.”
“I’m sure you’re referring to ICE and some of the protests and things like that. I think as a country we need to focus on respecting everyone’s rights and making sure that we treat our citizens with love and respect just like everyone else,” he added.
