Shaun Murphy beats Anthony McGill to win British Open title for first time

Shaun Murphy defeated Anthony McGill for the first time in an exciting final to win the British Open Championship 10-7.

The 2005 world champion hit 50 plus eight breaks on the way to demand the award, but was pushed by Scotland to the end of McGill.

Murphy from the UK did not take the lead in the match until the first frame of the evening session, 78 moved 5-4 in front of him.

McGill, who fell to 57th in the world and played in the first final in eight years, was not deterred by losing the advantage.

He answered his 7-6 bullet by putting his nose ahead with a break of 73.
