Donald Trump has been criticized as a ‘moron’ after unveiling a new commemorative passport featuring his photo online.
The new limited edition US passport was designed to commemorate America’s 250th birthday, and Trump shared a photo of the newly designed pages on his social media.
One of them shows the President with his fists on the Resolute Table, with the Declaration of Independence in the background, and his signature at the bottom.
The US State Department said limited edition passports will be available starting July 6 and only while stocks last.
Although Trump’s image on the passport drew criticism, the US president’s alleged remarks in the new documents became the focal point of the announcement as he insisted that people should be unaware of how the passport works.
Introducing the new passport at Truth Social, Trump said: “The New Passport of the USA says ‘Welcome, but be nice!’ “It says”, but the words “Welcome but be nice” do not appear in the images on the passport pages he shared in his post.
Social media users responded to this statement, claiming that Trump was confused about the functioning of the passport.
One user said: “Who does this idiot think he got the passport? The next president needs to cancel this nonsense and declare it invalid.”
Another added: “Hmm… US passports are used by US citizens traveling abroad. Welcome to what?”
Others shared their views on the newly designed document, adding: “The sad part? No other president in history has put his face on a US passport. Not Washington. Not Lincoln. Only 34 felons.”
The document is currently quite limited and only available to American citizens.
Americans must apply for restricted passports during an in-person visit to the passport office in Washington, D.C., the State Department said. Reflect the USA.
This marks the first time a living, current president has been included in a U.S. passport.
The State Department will release 40,000 limited edition commemorative passports, which will become the default version issued to anyone who applies in person at the Washington Passport Office.
