Donald Trump uses Pete Rose to justify soldier’s alleged shady Maduro bet, and he’s not wrong

No one on the planet is more outraged about Pete Rose’s situation than Donald Trump. Many things bother the president, and for good reason.
Insufferable media. Democrats. The fact that Iran cannot elect a new Religious Leader. Rosie O’Donnell. The list is long and quite comprehensive.
But the late great Pete Rose, who was kicked out of baseball decades ago for gambling, beats Trump every day. From where? I have no idea, but I respect it. Years ago, when Rose died, Trump wrote a novel, Truth Social, telling MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred to raise a pair and put Rose in the Hall of Fame. It was incredible.
Anyway, Trump and Rose were BACK in the news this week. This is true. Fasten your seat belt.

The president was asked Thursday about the status of U.S. Special Forces soldier Gannon Ken Van Dyke, who has been indicted by the Justice Department for illegal use of classified government information. What did he do?
He allegedly placed a series of bets on the prediction market polymarket It was stated that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro will fall from power by January 31.
According to the federal prosecutor’s office, Van Dyke was involved in the planning and execution of Maduro’s capture for approximately a month starting on December 8, 2025.
Your thoughts, Mr. President?
Trump makes another important point here
“Was he betting that they were going to get him or that they weren’t going to get him? That’s a little bit like Pete Rose. Pete Rose bet on his own team, so they kept him out of the Hall of Fame. Now, if he bet against his own team, that wouldn’t be good, but he bet on his own team.”
“I’ll look into it.”
First of all, it was a good thing that Trump finally said “I’ll look into this.” No he won’t. Well, scratch that. It could be. Again, the man LOVES Pete Rose. He still admires Pete today. If he can prevent one of our great military from becoming a modern-day Pete Rose, he will do it.
As for Van Dyke… I agree with Trump here. I’ve always thought it was stupid to punish people for betting on themselves, or in this case, their country. What’s the big deal? So I never understood why Rose got hit so hard for betting on the Reds.

As someone who bets and loses quite often, I can tell you that people care a lot more about something or someone when they have money for it. Just last night, I bet my Miami Dolphins would select Reuben Bain in the first round of the NFL Draft. $5 to win $30. Not bad, just a little sprinkle.
Bain was there at 12 o’clock, bound for Miami, and they ignored him. I was angry. But man, did I feel ALIVE!
Now is this the same as a soldier betting on the capture of a tyrannical dictator? No. But imagine Van Dyke’s absolute excitement when he saw Maduro strapped to the back of the helicopter, blindfolded and wearing Nike shorts, returning to the United States.

I can guess. I’m sure he ate like a king that night.

Anyway, Trump is not alone in this thought. Several prominent officials joined Van Dyke’s defense, including OutKick star Anna Paulina Luna.
And if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that if Anna Paulina Luna is on your side, everything will work out in the end.
