A Virginia police officer was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting a person he knew while off-duty, authorities said.
Vincent Baglio, 31, of Arlington, was arrested on a charge of malicious wounding, according to the Arlington County Police Department.
Police said the alleged assault occurred May 24 at a residence while Baglio was off duty. Authorities said Baglio and the alleged victim knew each other.

“During the interview, the suspect allegedly physically assaulted the victim and made statements threatening to harm her,” police said in a statement. he said.
The incident was reported to police on June 30, and Baglio was arrested after detectives investigated the allegations.
Police said Baglio was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of criminal and internal administrative investigations.

Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn said the allegations against Baglio do not represent the department’s values.
“I want to reassure our community that the serious criminal allegations in this case represent conduct that is completely unacceptable and fundamentally inconsistent with our agency’s values, standards and responsibilities,” Penn said. “Such actions directly contradict the oath we took and the professional expectations we place on every law enforcement officer.
Penn said the department would conduct both a criminal investigation and an internal administrative review and promised to hold officers accountable based on the findings.

“We remain committed to holding ourselves accountable and taking appropriate action based on the findings of these investigations,” Penn added.
Baglio joined the Arlington County Police Department in June 2024, according to the department.
