Don’t take SIR lightly, Revanth tells Congress leaders

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged Congress leaders and workers across the state to be careful during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and warned that deletion of genuine voters could lead to serious political consequences ahead of future elections.

Addressing an online meeting organized by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) led by TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, the Chief Minister said that there may be attempts to eliminate voters on various grounds, including suspicion, and emphasized that such developments should be closely monitored.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Revanth Reddy said the voters’ list to be completed by October 2026 will form the basis of the 2028 elections and warned that any loss of votes suffered now would be difficult to correct later. He instructed party leaders to closely coordinate with Booths Level Officers (BLOs) in each village and 119 Assembly constituencies and ensure that temporarily migrating voters are not removed from the electoral rolls due to their absence during verification.

The Prime Minister instructed the ministers responsible for the district, together with those responsible for the parliamentary and Assembly constituencies, to review the progress of the implementation by June 20. He also called for the establishment of monitoring systems at district, Parliament and Assembly constituency levels to ensure that problems are addressed immediately. A dedicated war room will be set up at Gandhi Bhavan to facilitate cabin-level monitoring, he said.

Terming the revision exercise a ‘very serious matter’, Mr. Revanth Reddy appealed to party officials not to take the process lightly and warned that negligence could lead to disruptions in the election.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka asked party leaders to identify knowledgeable activists and link them to BLOs to assist voters and monitor the verification process.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud alleged that there was a risk of deletion of pro-Congress votes during voter mapping and verification exercises, and emphasized that unmapped and suspicious votes should be closely monitored.

AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan claimed that voter deletion has become a major concern in many parts of the country and urged Congress workers to be careful.
