Dunkeswell crash: Pilot killed after light aircraft crashes near Devon airfield

A pilot died when his light plane crashed near the airport in England.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the woman, in her 40s, was flying alone when the plane crashed near Dunkeswell Airport in Devon on Friday morning.

A force spokesman said emergency services attended the scene and the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch was informed.

Inspector Jo Arundale said: “We will be working closely with the Air Accident Investigation Branch to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding this morning’s crash.

“We recognize that this is a very sad incident and we urge the public not to speculate about the accident.

“We would also ask anyone with relevant images to contact us and not post them online.

“Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the person involved.”

Eyewitnesses said dozens of fire crews, police vehicles and ambulances arrived at the airport Friday morning. An air ambulance landed there earlier and took off shortly after.
