Tiruchi Lok Sabha MP Durai Vaiko requested the Tiruchi Railway Division to provide service between Tiruchi and Salem via Karur for the benefit of daily commuters.

Currently Train No. 76822/76823 runs only between Karur and Salem, but the rake is kept at Tiruchi and runs empty till Karur. In a memorandum to Tiruchi, the Divisional Railway Manager said that to improve the convenience of passengers, the service may be extended up to Tiruchi with scheduled departure at 6 am and may be stopped at Tiruchi Palakkarai, Tiruchi Fort, Pettavaithalai, Kulithalai and Lalapettai.

The memorandum stated that an additional early morning service between Karur and Tiruchi, which will leave Karur at 4.45 am, reach Tiruchi at 6.30 am and return service from Tiruchi around 9 pm, will strengthen regional connectivity and facilitate interchange with major trains.

Mr. Durai Vaiko also made a number of demands to the Divisional Railway Manager when he met him at his office here on Sunday.

He requested that the Tiruchi – Mayiladuthurai MEMU express (Train No. 16833/34) be stopped as it serves a large number of daily commuters, students and employees working in nearby industrial areas in Tiruverumbur.

Currently, the station does not have a proper service to Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai, causing great inconvenience to passengers. He said discontinuing this train will significantly improve connectivity, reduce travel inconvenience and increase passenger patronage as well as provide a reliable transport option for residents of Tiruverumbur and surrounding areas.

Construction of a metro in North Ukkadai Ariyamangalm area in Tiruchi City to provide seamless connectivity to residents; Other demands include clearing overgrown bushes and thick bushes on the sides of the railway line adjacent to the Jeeva Nagar residential area in Tiruchi and operating DEMU special services during the upcoming Samayapuram ‘Poochorithal’ festival to meet the increased passenger demand during this period.
