Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday said that the education sector will continue to be a priority in every annual budget under the current government and the allocations will be increased to 15% in a phased manner.
“Though the Telangana Education Commission recommended 17%, we could not suddenly increase it from 7.6%. But this is our priority and it will increase every year,” said Mr. Reddy, who is also the State Education Minister. However, he emphasized that in the 2026-27 academic year, admissions to public schools will be seen, starting from pre-school departments, which is one of the other important recommendations.
The CM was inaugurating the ‘Special Education Week’ celebrations held as a mega event at the LB Stadium here as part of the 99-day governance action plan Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika, with the participation of teachers, students, administrators and senior government leaders.
The event was marked by laying the foundation stone of works worth ₹ 1,700 crore towards the construction of 11 integrated school complexes, including pre-school sections, upgradation of existing schools and additional classrooms in Medchal-Malkajgiri, Sangareddy and Rangareddy districts, which form the Core Urban District Economy (CURE) of Hyderabad.
In his 35-minute speech, Mr. Reddy reassured and encouraged teachers and parents in the state while inspiring students to make Telangana a national model in public education. “Spending on education is an investment in the future and only education can transform Telangana. That is why I kept the education portfolio with me and when I look at the education sector, I am the Education Minister,” he emphasized.
Mr. Reddy listed the initiatives taken by the Congress government since December 2023 and drew a contrast with the previous 10-year rule of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. These included the recruitment of over 11,000 teachers, DSC notifications, teacher transfers, revision of dietary and cosmetic fees for hostel students, Young India Residential Schools to end caste-based discrimination and, more recently, the first global exchange program for teachers to Finland, with recommendations from NITI Aayog.

He said the state government may even send 500 teachers every year for global programs so that they can learn and implement new practices in the state. He argued that teachers play a very important role in building society and that teaching is not just a job or a burden, but a responsibility arising from emotion.
At the closing ceremony, Mr. Reddy awarded cash prizes to students and best performing teachers who excelled in sports and exams.
The week-long celebrations will include events and activities in each region to showcase progress and provide better learning opportunities, improve school infrastructure, strengthen academic support systems and reflect the government’s vision.
Advisor (Public Relations) K. Keshava Rao, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, Mohammed Azharuddin, Secretary (Education) Yogita Rana and vice-chancellors of various State universities were present.
