Eight children killed in horror mass shooting as gunman opens fire in two houses | World | News

Eight children lost their lives in a horrific mass shooting that occurred when a gunman opened fire on two houses in Louisiana, USA. The young victims, who ranged in age from 1 to 14, were killed around 6 a.m. Sunday due to a “domestic disturbance,” authorities said. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith said a total of 10 people were shot.
Authorities said they were still gathering details about the crime scene, which spanned three locations in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. After leaving the initial scene, the attacker hijacked the car, patrol officers chased him and then shot him dead, Mr. Smith said.
The crime scene included two houses on one street, another house on a separate street, and a fourth location.
Authorities stated that they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and confirmed that the attacker was related to some of the killed children.
Mr. Smith said: “I’m heartbroken, I can’t imagine how an event like this could happen. This affects the entire community. We’re all mourning the loss of these families,” Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux told reporters.
“This is a Sunday morning, I ask all of you to pray in your services this morning, not just for this family, but for all the victims, the victims in the hospital, and the community at large.
“This is a tragic situation. Maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had in Shreveport. It’s a terrible morning in Shreveport.”
He said the size of the scene was unlike anything he had ever seen before.
Louisiana State Police are currently investigating and said no officers were harmed during the shooting or police pursuit. Police asked any witnesses or anyone with information to contact detectives.
