Roy Collapsed Instantly From A Bullet Shot,” Says The Preliminary Autopsy Report

BENGALUR: While an official autopsy report into the death of businessman and Confident Group chairman CJ Roy is awaited, initial findings reveal that a single 6.35mm bullet that Roy allegedly fired at himself “instantly” led to his death. Initial observations showed that Roy collapsed immediately (after being hit by a bullet).
The bullet Roy allegedly shot tore through the left side of his heart and lungs and traveled towards the back of his chest (before becoming lodged). “There was no visible exit wound on the body,” said Dr Aravind MN, Superintendent of Bowring Hospital in Bengaluru, where CJ Roy’s body was subjected to post-mortem examination on Saturday.
CJ Roy allegedly shot himself with his pistol in his private office at Confident Group’s Corporate Office near Richmond Circle in Bengaluru city around 3.15 pm on Friday. When Roy shot himself dead, a team of Income Tax officials from Kerala were at the Corporation Office to question Roy for alleged tax evasion.
Roy’s brother CJ Babu claimed that his brother informed him about the alleged pressure on him by IT officials and suspected that the pressure put on Roy could have been the reason for his brother to take the drastic step of ending his life through suicide.
Meanwhile, Forensic Science experts collected gunpowder samples and also took blood samples from Roy’s body for analysis. A CT scan was also performed on Roy’s body before the autopsy.
In Bengaluru, Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar told reporters: “Roy arrived from Dubai three days later. (On Friday) Roy was questioned by the IT officials in his office and meanwhile he told the IT officials to return in 5 minutes. However, he did not return from his room even after 20 minutes and when the office door opened, he saw that Roy had died by suicide.”
“We have instructed the police department to launch a preliminary investigation into Roy’s death,” the Home Secretary said.
SIT to Probe Roy’s Death
Bengaluru city Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Saturday ordered formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged suicide of CJ Roy, Chairman of Confident Group and Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic, taking into account the case of unnatural death registered at Ashok Nagar police station in Bengaluru city on Friday.
“An SIT has been constituted with the aim of ensuring a thorough and meticulous investigation into the death of CJ Roy,” the commissioner said in a note published here, assuring that all aspects of the case will be thoroughly examined by the SIT.
The SIT will be headed by the Joint Commissioner of Police, Western Zone C. Vamshi Krishna and Lokesh Jagalasar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Southern Division, will act as investigating officers, while Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division Akshay Hake and other senior officers transferred from various departments and special units will also be members.
The commissioner said the SIT has the authority to deploy additional officers and resources required for the purpose of the investigation.
