Elizabeth Warren, Other Democrats Applaud as Trump Condemns Congressional Stock Trading

President Donald Trump called on Congress to pass a bill banning congressional stock trading in his State of the Union address Tuesday, prompting a rare Democratic applause from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and her colleagues.

“Let’s also make sure that members of Congress can’t corruptly profit from insider information,” Trump told the crowd of lawmakers, to applause later.

The bipartisan praise appeared to surprise Trump, who swept the Democratic wing of the House of Representatives.

Trump was seen referencing Pelosi’s large stock portfolio that her family has amassed during her decades in Congress, prompting allegations of insider trading. Pelosi denied the allegations approved Congress bans stock trading in 2022.

Trump called on Congress to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act, introduced in the House last month, “without delay.” The bill remained in the House after dozens of Republicans refused to support it.
