Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said during a bilateral meeting at the White House that he wanted to hire press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who impromptuly took media off the air for spreading “fake news” over American affordability concerns.

On Friday, Orban reportedly leaned towards Trump and asked, “Can I get that for us?” Trump said, “Karoline, the prime minister wants you to work for him in Hungary.”

The scene unfolded after Trump summoned Leavitt to the Cabinet room at the White House, where Trump and Orban were holding a bilateral meeting to discuss Hungary’s energy and trade. Near the end of the meeting, as reporters peppered the president with questions about the shutdown and affordability concerns, one reporter said: “You said last night that you didn’t want to talk about affordability.”

Trump responded:I talked about this. When did I not want to talk about it? I talk about this all the time. “We are now much better than Biden and all of them.”

Trump addressed Leavitt after his response, and Leavitt arrived at the meeting shortly after.

“They said, ‘Oh, I don’t want to talk about affordability.’ The reason I don’t want to talk about affordability is because everyone knows it’s a lot cheaper under Trump than it was under Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump said. “And prices have dropped a lot.”

Leavitt arrived at the meeting and immediately began taking the media off the air for their coverage of the economy.

“It is very unfortunate, sir, that the reporters in this room refuse to address what you said, that you have inherited the worst inflationary crisis in modern American history and that you will fix it in 10 short months,” Leavitt said. he said. “And your entire administration has been tasked with this effort, from the Treasury Department to the Department of Agriculture to the National Economic Council here in the White House; they’re cutting regulations. In six months, he signed the largest middle-class tax cut. In six months, in record time. It put more money in the pockets of the American people.”

“Affordability is what the American people elected this president to do,” he added. “And he’s doing it. And you refuse to cover it. And you refused to report that the previous administration created the worst affordability crisis in American history. And I watched TV all day saying he didn’t want to talk about affordability. That’s what he works on every day. And that’s what this administration is doing right now.”

Trump said the media was “refusing” to cover economic gains because reporters were “fake news,” then Orban intervened and said he wanted to hire Leavitt.

After Trump said he wanted to hire Leavitt, he jokingly told Orban, “You know, that’s a very good decision you made.” “Please don’t leave us, Karoline.”
