England locks in Thomas Tuchel till 2028 as FA backs German to chase glory

Bullingham said securing Tuchel early would bring clarity and stability ahead of challenging tournaments, stating that the decision followed “an extraordinary year” and simple talks in which both sides agreed they wanted to continue.
The FA had planned to review the partnership after World Cup qualifiers but opted to act now rather than wait, arguing that fixed-term roles naturally prompt future planning before they end.
Bullingham acknowledged the challenges ahead, citing tough opponents, scheduling demands and climate conditions, but said he believed the FA now had the right coaching team to pursue a historic goal: becoming the third European nation to win the men’s World Cup outside Europe.
Tuchel will continue to work with assistants Anthony Barry and Justin Cochrane, alongside a larger coaching staff, while the FA also aims to develop a pipeline of home-grown coaches for future national team roles.
