Epstein bombshell as ‘a million more documents’ found | World | News

US authorities are “working around the clock” after discovering more than a million documents that may be relevant to the case of late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a Christmas Eve bombshell, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on social media on Wednesday that lawyers were already working to review and organize the files.

The Justice Department said it was notified of the discovery by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the FBI. It was not immediately clear how prosecutors and the Bureau obtained the material. The Department of Justice said: “The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the FBI have notified the Department of Justice that they have uncovered potentially more than one million more documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.

“DOJ has obtained these documents from the SDNY and FBI to review for release in accordance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, existing law, and judicial orders.

“We have lawyers working 24 hours a day to investigate and make legally necessary arrangements to protect victims, and we will release the documents as soon as possible. Due to the volume of material, this process may take several more weeks.

“The Department will continue to fully comply with federal law and President Trump’s instructions to release the files.”

The bombshell revelation comes just days after the Department of Justice released thousands of ‘Epstein dossier’ documents over the past few days relating to authorities’ investigations into the disgraced financier.

The files were released after Congress passed the Epstein File Transparency Act in November, which was later signed by the President of the United States. Donald Trump.

The law required the Justice Department to make all Epstein files public. Documents may be altered to ensure victims’ identities are protected, but the law prohibits withholding names and information to protect individuals from embarrassment or “reputational damage.”

Corrections made to some documents disclosed so far have been the target of criticism from Democratic and Republican lawmakers. The Justice Department was also criticized for not releasing all of its files on the Epstein case by the Dec. 19 deadline set by the Transparency Act.

The White House on Wednesday defended the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein records. “President Trump has assembled the largest cabinet in American history, which includes his team, including Attorney General Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Blanche, who have done a fantastic job of implementing the president’s agenda,” spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said in a statement.
