Donald Trump tried to drag King Charles into the debate about the war with Iran last night. The King was welcomed to Washington, D.C., with a dinner at the White House for a four-day state visit.
Speaking about the current conflict in the Middle East, the President told guests in the East Room of the White House: “Charles agrees with me.” He added: “We’re doing a little Middle East work at the moment… and we’re doing very well.
“We have defeated a particular rival militarily, and we will never allow that rival. Charles agrees with me more than I do; we will never allow that rival to have nuclear weapons. They know that, and they know it very strongly now.”
Some of the 120 guests at the white-tie event laughed awkwardly after these words. Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, did not immediately respond to Mr. Trump’s comments.
