According to weather maps, snow could fall and temperatures could drop to -2C in Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Leeds, the Cotswolds and Stoke on Trent.

However, the lowest temperatures will be seen around Inverness and Aberdeen, with mercury levels dropping to -6C.

The weather maps come after the Met Office issued a yellow fog warning for many areas on Saturday, with the possibility of travel disruption. The warning will be in force from 10pm on Saturday until 7am on Sunday for the West Midlands, East Midlands and parts of the east coast, including Birmingham, Nottingham and Hull.

The National Weather Agency stated: “Areas of fog will develop quite broadly Saturday night and early Sunday morning and will be concentrated in locations leading to difficult travel conditions.”

The Met Office’s long-term forecast for 27 November to 6 December is as follows: “After a stable start across much of England and Wales, there will be rapid deterioration into instability across Northern Ireland, Scotland and then the rest of England and Wales by Wednesday and Thursday, with Atlantic systems carrying clouds and rain heralding a step back towards more variable and even unstable conditions in the final days of November and early December.

“Rains can be heavy and prolonged at times, with a risk of storms. There may also be short-term, temporary settlement periods, perhaps increasing the risk of frost and fog further to the south-east for a day or two.”

“Moderder than seen in recent times, with temperatures more generally above average than below average for much of the period.”
