Ex-doctor charged over alleged sexual assaults on patients | UK | News

A former hospital doctor has been charged with 45 sexual offenses, including against children. He was charged with alleged sexual assault against 38 victims who were patients under his care.

The Crown Prosecution Service said former doctor Nathaniel Spencer, 38, of Quinton in Birmingham, was charged with 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 counts of assault by penetration, nine counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, three counts of assault by penetration on a child under 13 and one count of attempted assault by penetration. He will appear at North Staffordshire Justice Center on January 20.

The charges follow what Staffordshire Police in a statement called a “complex investigation” into allegations of sexual offenses at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.

The alleged crimes are said to have occurred between 2017 and 2021.

Deputy Crown Prosecutor Ben Samples of the West Midlands CPS Complex Casework Unit and Serious Violence, Organized Crime and Exploitation Unit said: “We have decided to prosecute Nathaniel Spencer for a number of serious sexual offenses allegedly committed against patients while he was working as a doctor, including assault by penetration and sexual assault on a child.

“Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation carried out by Staffordshire Police, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute the case and that it was in the public interest to continue the criminal investigation.”
