Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor of NYC: This is his salary
NEW YORK (PIX11) – It’s the first day of the new year and a year of firsts in New York City with a new mayor. Mayor Zohran Mamdani was sworn in on Thursday.
By doing so, Mayor Mamdani becomes the city’s chief executive officer and president of more than 40 city agencies, leading the largest city in the United States.
Democratic Socialist Mamdani is taking the reins from former Mayor Eric Adams and aims to fulfill his campaign promises.
Some of his campaign ideas included taxing the rich, free bus rides, and free childcare.
Addressing the cheering crowd, Mamdani said, “From today onwards, we will govern broadly and audaciously. We may not always succeed, but we will never be accused of lacking the courage to try.” “To those who insist that the era of big government is over, hear me when I say this: The City will no longer hesitate to use its power to improve the lives of New Yorkers.”
As the new mayor, Mamdani is expected to earn an annual salary of $258,750. open data sources.
