Georgia Rep.-elect Clay Fuller sworn in to boost GOP House majority

Republican Rep.-elect Clay Fuller of Georgia is expected to be sworn in by Johnson on Tuesday, a week after Fuller defeated Democrat Shawn Harris in a match. special election To fill the vacant U.S. House seat in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District in the key southeastern battleground state.

The seat in Northwest Georgia was left vacant when MAGA firebrand Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene resigned in early January. Greene left Congress with a year left in her term after a bitter dispute with Trump.

The special election comes as Republicans cling to a fragile four-seat majority in the House of Representatives. The GOP has been under gun to ensure Democrats don’t suffer an upset in a district that President Donald Trump carries by a massive 37-point margin in his 2024 presidential victory. Fuller trailed Harris by 12 points.

Pointing to Fuller in his statement to Fox News Digital, Johnson said, “We look forward to welcoming him to our House Republican Conference and adding another strong member to our small but significant majority.”

And the House Speaker described Fuller, a local district attorney and lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard who has served in the Air Force since 2009, as “a principled leader focused on delivering results for Georgia.”

In an interview with Fox News Digital last week minutes after winning the runoff, Fuller described himself as a “support” for Johnson and said his victory was “extremely important.”

And, referring to Washington, D.C., he said he was “looking forward to getting out there, being out there, and fighting as soon as possible.”

When Fuller is sworn in, the Republican conference of the House of Representatives will be at 219; This conference will also include California Rep. Kevin Kiley, a Republican independent turned Republican who has been caucusing with the GOP.

But Democrats may soon increase their ranks, one by one, to 215.

Democratic congressional candidate Analilia Mejia is favored in Thursday’s special election in New Jersey’s left-leaning 11th Congressional District in the race to fill the seat left vacant after Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill resigned after winning the governor’s election last year.

Following the unexpected death of Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa in early January, another seat in Congress remains vacant in California’s 1st Congressional District.

The primary in the race to fill LaMalfa’s seat will be held on June 2, which is primary election day in California. The special general election will be held on August 4.

The region in northeastern California is solidly Republican.
