Explained: Why US Has Sanctioned Indian Nationals And Firms Over Iranian Oil Trade | World News

The United States has intensified its pressure on Iran’s energy sector and announced sanctions against more than 50 individuals, companies and ships accused of facilitating Iran’s sales of oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The action, led by the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), also includes the names of many Indian citizens and companies allegedly linked to the transportation of Iranian oil products in violation of US sanctions.
What Triggered the Sanctions?
According to the US Treasury, these individuals and organizations provided critical income to the Iranian regime by helping to transport billions of dollars worth of oil and LPG from Iran. Washington claims this money supports Iran’s network of militants and proxy groups that threaten US interests and regional stability.
