Extra £250m funding announced to boost Jewish community safety

Sir Keir said the funding would provide “a step change in protection and policing so that Jewish communities can live free of fear and celebrate their faith”, while Crime and Policing Minister Sarah Jones said the government had “gone even further and provided record funding to help keep Jewish people in London safe”.

Mark Gardner, chief executive of the Community Security Trust, said increased police and government support did not come “not a moment too soon”.

The package is in addition to the £25 million emergency fund announced in April following the Golders Green attack. The funding was described by the Met at the time as “one-off funding” which retroactively covered the cost of increased civil servants to north-west London.

The government also confirmed that £32.4 million will be allocated in 2026-27 for protective security of Jewish settlements, including synagogues, schools and community centres. This figure appears to combine the £28.4 million announced for the Jewish Community Safeguarding Grant in February with an additional £4 million allocated in May.

Some other measures outlined alongside the policing package have also been previously announced, including £7 million to tackle antisemitism in schools and universities and the expansion of community cohesion programmes.
