Facebook Marketplace BMW sale goes hideously wrong for Adelaide father Sayed Rafi Haidari

A South Australian man’s attempt to sell his second-hand BMW on Facebook Marketplace went horribly wrong after he was allegedly robbed at knifepoint.

Sayed Rafi Haidari, who lives in Burton, north of Adelaide, advertised the 2008 silver sedan via his social media channel.

But he was left shaken and carless when his buyer turned up for a test drive, allegedly pulled out a knife and walked away.

Mr. Haidari told 7NEWS that a potential buyer contacted him shortly before 11pm on Wednesday, asking to see the car immediately.

Although the buyer requested that he arrive the next day, Mr. Haidari reluctantly allowed him to take a short test drive, and then the situation turned dire.

“He told me: ‘Please help me, I need a car to go to work tomorrow,’” she said.

“I said I could come tomorrow evening at 6, but he was already on his way.”

Mr Haidari later claimed the man returned from a test drive and pulled out a knife.

“He showed me the knife. I told him ‘okay bro, you can go,'” the father of two added.

Mr Haidari, who moved to Australia from Afghanistan two years ago, told 7NEWS the ordeal had left his family shaken and disappointed.

Following the incident, South Australian police requested support to track down the stolen vehicle.

“The victim had listed his silver 2008 BMW sedan for sale online and the man went to the Burton address just before midnight on Thursday, June 25, to inspect the car,” an SA Police spokesman said in a statement.

“The buyer took the BMW for a short test drive on the street and returned home.

“When the victim asked him to show his driver’s license and ID, the man pulled out a knife and got into the BMW and drove away.”

The suspect is stated to be in his early 20s, approximately 178 cm tall and with dark hair. He was wearing red and white shoes.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have seen the vehicle, registered S786 DFS, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
