Miami Open: Coco Gauff reaches semi-finals for first time
Gauff, a three-time winner of WTA 1000 events, reached her first quarterfinal in Miami after being eliminated in the last 16 in 2022, 2024 and 2025.
She will face Carolina Muchova in the final after the Czech athlete defeated Canadian young Victoria Mboko 7-5 7-6 (7-5).
If Gauff reaches the final, she will overtake former world number one Iga Swiatek and move into third place in the WTA rankings next week.
Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina, who finished second behind world number one Aryna Sabalenka at Indian Wells earlier this month, advanced to the quarter-finals against fifth seed Jessica Pegula.
The world number two ended the impressive run of Australian 21-year-old Talia Gibson with a 6-2 6-2 win.
In the other quarter-final match on Wednesday, reigning champion Sabalenka will face American Hailey Baptiste.
