Family holds silent protest outside Atrium Children’s Hospital, demanding accountability after child injured due to alleged negligence

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A family is still demanding accountability from Atrium Health after claiming their child suffered serious injuries as a result of the hospital’s negligence.
The family gathered outside Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital on Tuesday morning and held a silent protest hosted by the civil rights organization True Healing Under God.
They filed a medical malpractice lawsuit, saying their child, Ma’Nyla Grace Conley, who was born prematurely, suffered a stroke caused by the misplacement of a catheter. The application claimed that this caused the young girl’s stroke, and the family was not informed that it had caused the stroke until several months later.
Atrium offered a $5 million deal, but the family turned it down last fall. They say they will continue to press for change.
“I hope today I show Atrium that I am a mother who will continue to fight,” said Shartezma Webber, Ma’Nyla’s mother. “She has a father who will continue to fight. She has a family. She has friends who will continue to defend her, and we will not stop. But even if Ma’Nyla gets justice, we will continue for other families until you do right by us.”
The lawsuit demands that the hospital pay compensation. We have reached out to Atrium for comment regarding the accusations and are awaiting to hear back.
