Piggery video charges against animal activist dismissed

An animal rights activist accused of sewing a secret camera allegedly caught a worker who had sex on a pig rejected his accusations.

Siena Callander, a senior researcher at the Farm Transparency Project, met the Bendigo Magistrate Court on Monday for a controversial hearing.

It is claimed that the hidden cameras of the activist group took a sexual action on a pig in Midland Bacon in Carag Carag in Carag Carag, east of Shepparton on February 11, 2024.

The images were reported to the police and O’reilly was later accused of crime against animals.

In January, 32 -year -old Mrs. Callander was accused of unauthorized entry, biomuality measures and establishing an optical surveillance device.

In the Regional Victorian Court, the woman who appeared in person was not guilty and the police did not bring any evidence.

“When he does not manage evidence, I have not proved the charges and I will reject the charges,” peace judge Trieu Huynh said. He said.

In June, Mrs. Callander objected to giving evidence at the pre -hearing for O’reilly due to the extraordinary court issue.

His lawyers argued that the images were unacceptable because they were illegally obtained.

The video was shown in 2024 in Victoria Parliament’s investigation into the welfare of the pig and asked liberal and national deputies to go out.

The investigation under the chairmanship of the Animal Justice Party Deputy Georgie Purcell proposed to make CCTV cameras compulsory in all processing and agricultural plants.

The Victoria government accepted 16 of its 18 advice in full or principle, including compulsory CCTV in pigs.

However, any assessment of compulsory CCTV, especially since agricultural facilities are generally on private property, said that the industry and participation and confidentiality problems will require the examination.

O’Reilly’s case will be heard on September 2 in front of a hearing planned for two days in December.
